Line of the Day: July 10th, 2011

CC Sabathia pitched a four-hit shutout to earn his major league-leading 13th win in a 1-0 pitchers' duel victory over James Shields and the Tampa Bay Rays. It was the 32nd complete game and 12th shutout of his career.

Line: 9 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 9 K; W, QS, CG, SHO

My fantasy perspective: Sabathia just keeps rolling righ talong (insert overweight joke of your choice here). He earned his second "Line of the Day" award in the past eleven days. His name rarely comes up in the discussions when talking about Cy Young-caliber pitchers because somehow the "win" has been devalued. Well wins are a valuable part of fantasy baseball and CC is a winner.

He currently ranks as the seventh-best starting pitcher in fantasy baseball with his 13-4 record, 2.72 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 126 strikeouts. His 7.78 K/9 is above his career ratio of 7.58 and his 2.16 BB/9 is below his career ratio of 2.77. Both very good signs for Sabathia owners.

His 3.09 xFIP and .300 BABIP legitimize that what you see is what you're truly getting out of him this year, so enjoy. And speak up when it comes time to vote for the Cy Young that you believe wins should still matter when all of the other peripheral statistics are up there with the other "elites".
