Line of the Day: June 8th, 2011

SP Matt Cain of the San Fransisco Giants pitched his first complete game of the season in a 3-1 victory over the Washington Nationals. He allowed five hits and struck out 11 en route to his 13th career complete game.

Line: 9 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 11 K; W, QS, CG

My fantasy perspective: Cain was the 19th starting pitcher drafted in ESPN leagues with an ADP of 74.6 and currently stands as the 32nd-ranked starter, according to their Player Rater. Owners that invested in him as their fantasy ace shouldn't be too concerned with this information. He's posted a 5-4 record with a 3.36 ERA, a 1.17 WHIP and a nice 7.77 K/9 in 85.2 innings pitched. Cain owners are getting the player they expected on draft day and should expect his wins to be in the 12-15 range with excellent peripherals.

  1. Yup. Agree. I was concerned about Cain earlier in the year, especially when he had arm discomfort during Spring Training. But he's coming around and is the pitcher he's always been for several years now.

  2. He definitely has the ability to prove us right in drafting him, its up to him to do it though. GREAT article, very well written.
